Manchester United began their maiden Women’s Champions League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Valerenga at Leigh Sports Village, thanks to Maya Le Tissier’s first-half penalty. United dominated proceedings from the outset, with Melvine Malard, Elisabeth Terland and Hinata Miyazawa all coming close before Le Tissier calmly converted from the spot after a handball by Arna Eiríksdottir.
