Nobel Prize-winning economists Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee are set to leave the United States for Switzerland next year, where they will join the University of Zurich (UZH) to lead a new initiative in development economics. The married couple, currently based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), will become part of UZH’s economics faculty from July 2026.
